white Quinceanera dress

Since the dress is one of the primary symbols of a Quinceanera tradition, its’ color is of great importance as well. Knowing so, traditional Quinceanera celebrations usually have the Quince girl dressed in a white Quinceanera dress to represent her purity in heart and life.

Throughout time, families and young girls alike have drifted from the tradition of choosing a white Quinceanera dress, and have opted for colorful, more modern designs. Nonetheless, there are still those that- for the sake of maintaining tradition- choose to wear a white gown on the day of their celebration.

But with the ingenuity of modern dress designers and as a request from customers, it’s now possible to build on tradition with touches of modern fashion. Through the cut, design, and detailing, a white Quinceanera dress can be just as fashion forward as any colorful gown.

To prove, below is a gallery of white Quinceanera dresses that Moda 200 and Raul Corona showcased at last year’s Quinceanera.com Expo and Fashion Show series. In the gallery you will notice that with minimal touches of another color, elaborate detailing, and ruffled skirts, a white Quince dress is just as captivating as its colorful counterpart.

XV dresses
Catalog XV dresses, designs from emerging designers, and gowns from an established fashion house. What are the pros and cons for each and which option is best for your Quinceanera budget?

Organizing a Quinceanera can be as memorable as the party itself, and shopping for the Quinceanera dress is by far the most exciting part of the party planning. But that joy can quickly turn sour if your family becomes overwhelmed by the various market choices. Therefore, before you set foot in search of the perfect Quince dress, you need to know the 3 most popular gown options available and the pros and cons for each one. Knowing this will give you and your family the tools needed to narrow down your choices and shop for the type of Quinceanera gown that best suits your personal taste and budget.

The 3 types of XV dresses you need to know

XV dresses

Catalog Quinceanera dresses from Moda 2000 boutique.

Type #1: Catalog XV dresses
Catalog dresses are mass-produced and are often sold to individual retailers in large volumes. These are standard in design and sold to various retailers.

Cons: Since this type is produced in large quantities, chances are many Quinceaneras have worn the style or one very similar to it. So if a family is looking for a unique, one-of-a kind dress, this option will not work for them.

Pros: Since mass production keeps the cost of this type of dress low, it’s the less expensive option. Also, most catalog dresses are available in a large selection of colors and sizes, making it easy for a Quinceanera to find this model in the color and size she’s looking for. Plus, most Quinceanera boutique shops that carry catalog dresses tend to sell them in packages that include accessories, bouquet, kneeling pillow, and other ceremony basics.

Type #2: XV dresses from emerging designers
These are gowns created by designers that are starting to make a name for themselves in the Quinceanera market. These designs are the midway point between Type #1 and Type #3.

Cons: Since most emerging designers work independently, they may be limited to resources, which may cause them to only take a few orders at a time. So getting your order in and on time will be key if ordering a dress from an emerging designer.

Pros:  These type of designers have a young hunger for creating, which is quite exciting for a Quince girl who is also at that point in her life of seeking freshness and innovation. This option allows families to purchase a unique Quince dress without having to pay the high cost that is typically associated with a high-profile brand. Plus, you never know if the emerging designer of today will be tomorrow’s leading brand. So being part of that history in the making is quite exciting.

XV dresses

Designs by Mexican fashion guru Mitzy.

Type #3: XV dresses from established fashion houses
These are the brand dresses that are widely known within the Quinceanera market, they’ve been in the public eye for years and may have even dressed celebrities, too.

Cons: the biggest setback to selecting this type of gown is the price tag associated with the fashion house. Although most major labels work with payment plans, the final cost may still be too much for some families to afford. Also, since most established houses juggle various projects at one time (fashion shows, media events, photo shoots, etc.), families will need to schedule an appointment as early as possible. In some cases, even one year in advance.

Pros: Quality. Major fashion houses have their reputation to uphold, so creating top of the line dresses is their top priority. These gowns are flipped inside out, over and out with every seam and detail inspected before given the seal of approval. Another benefit of going with this type of dress is the privilege of wearing an exclusive gown of that particular brand. Many Quinceaneras choose this design because it goes hand-in-hand with the idea of being “Queen for a day”.

Quinceanera dresses

Raul Corona’s Quinceanera dresses mark the stage at our Quinceanera.com Expo and Fashion Show in Los Angeles.

On Sunday, May 19, 2013, Moda 2000, Raul Corona and celebrity designer Mitzy showcased Quinceanera dresses for attendees of the Quinceanera.com Expo and Fashion Show in Los Angeles, California.

Anaheim-based dress shop Moda 2000 sent its models down the runway in a flurry of cotton candy colored dresses with rhinestones embroidered on the bodice.  One of the models was our 2012 Los Angeles Cover Girl winner, Shelbi Byrnes, who wore bright colors of fuchsia pink and sparkling silver on her dress. Moda 2000 showed two different collections – one with shorter dresses aimed at the damas in a Quince court, and the other included longer, more elaborate dresses for a Quinceanera. A unique aspect of the Moda 2000 fashion segment included the models parading down the runways carrying bundles of balloons which they handed off to audience members who were happy to receive them.

Emerging designer Raul Corona kept the lineup of Quinceanera dresses coming with his elaborate designs. Venturing away from his usual style of sweetheart style necklines, Corona’s dresses showcased lace embroidered sleeves akin to a renaissance style fit for a princess. The dresses included a white, cream and gold creation with mesh sleeves, gold leaf beading at the bodice, and layers of cream lace and pleating on the skirt. Another model posed with a dress adorned in pink ruffles and gold rhinestones. A ribbon acted as a sleeve on this particular dress, reminiscent of a monarch’s regal sash. Taking a cue from the power color of the year, emerald green, another of Corona’s models wore a green and gold dress with a one-shouldered feather and ribbon design on the sleeve. And right on trend with spring’s latest tresses styles, his models wore trending high buns with braids tucked into the design.

Finally, designer-to-the-stars Mitzy displayed his Quinceanera dresses with a baroque theme, including luscious cascades of blue, gold and maroon fabrics that were embroidered with gold threading and delicate accents. His models carried masquerade masks to complete the European baroque fashion. Other designs from Mitzy included gold and pink Quinceanera dresses with long trains. The models’ hairstyles ranged from a bouffant half-up style with flowing curls to updo’s with curls and crowns as accessories.
